Jackson Hole Driving Academy offers group

and private lessons for new drivers and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Vicky O'Donoghue, a certified driving instructor in both Wyoming and Virginia, offers five group sessions a year to satisfy Wyoming requirements for graduated driving licenses. The course includes 12 classroom sessions and six hours of individual driving sessions with Vicky by appointment. Private lessons include up to 20 hours of individual instruction.

The JHDA program now includes a computer simulator to introduce students to driving situations that are not available in Jackson.

Upon completion of instruction, students may receive their drivers license from the Wyoming Department of Transportation without a road test or additional written tests. Most Insurance companies offer Students a 10 - 20% savings for taking the drivers education class, 10% for 3.0 GPA, and another 10% for completing the steer clear program.

Group classroom sessions meet after school or, during summer sessions, at a time to be arranged, at the Jackson Hole High School. Upcoming sessions are scheduled for fall, winter, and next spring. Students are accepted into the classroom portion from age 14.

Lessons require the completion of an application and driving release form turned in by the first day of class, and payment of $399 at that time, or payments of $199.50 each for the classroom sessions and driving sessions. Fees for private lessons may be discussed directly with the instructor. A learners permit is NOT needed to take the classroom session. However, a learners permit IS required for the driving sessions.

Parents are urged to to practice driving with their teenager. Each student should have at least 8 hours of driving time before they take the JHDA driving session. Find some back roads in Jackson on which to practice, such as the Kelly Road, the Elk Refuge Road, or the distant portions of Fall Creek Road.. PATIENCE is the KEY. WyDOT requires that persons obtaining their final drivers license before age 17 log driving of at least 50 hours with a parent or teacher over the age of 18. Six of those hours can be satisfied through the JHDA course.
